Afternoons with my Father
Last night, I was looking at some old pictures of my Dad and me and I realized, as we were getting older, we started to regard each other, not as father and son anymore, but as friends. I remember his last birthday, when we were sitting at the table in the garden drinking some wine; and all I could feel was how much we were enjoying the moment. We were two men with different lives, experiences and wisdom enjoying a peaceful moment and sharing our affection for each other in that silent way only men can do. Looking at my Dad, I realized that besides all the tests that life has given me, I still had something to learn from him, my old friend. Now I look at my small son playing in the garden, and I look forward to the day when I will be able to sit on my Father’s chair at the table and my son on mine and relive the afternoons I enjoyed with my Dad.
